Welcome to the New ::CMC:: Designs Blog!

What is ::CMC:: Designs? ::CMC:: Designs is CHUCKMATRIX Clip's Second Life based gallery, consisting of his RL art work as well as his SL sculptures. Opened originally in late 2008, it grew painfully slowly until 2009. Upon making some amazing friends and allies, ::CMC:: Designs grew by leaps and bounds until it finally occupied a full sim. It grew beyond me and in utter desperation I closed it down in January 2010 never to return again, or so I thought....
I have since left that behind and after a year long hiatus, I have returned to building. I reopened ::CMC:: Designs with a different kind of focus, more art and expression. I am also more concerned with the integrity of my work and far less likely to make the random modifications for people that I might have in the past. Love my art or hate it, it is rare to find artists who do what I do... a dying art called prim sculpture. From abstract art to the PiƩta it all starts as a box...

Its Coming Hard and Fast. Brace Yourself.

I'm preparing a new show. It shall be all new work, and, for a time, ONLY available in one gallery. I'll be working in conjunction with another artist. The details for now are being withheld.

THE WHY ARE YOU WRITING THIS CHUCK???

Consider it a non-disclaimer. My pieces will be unlike any other I have done before. I'm taking shots left and right. No one is safe... well... no artists anyway. Yep. You know I respect many of you. But all you wanna be's out there can expect to shed some tears as you realize that the term "artist" doesn't apply to you. It never did. The users of Second Life LIED to you and for some reason you BOUGHT it. So if you think you might be a wanna be artist, don't come to my show. No.. scratch that. Come to the show and learn the truth for once in your virtual life.

Immanentize The Eschaton

You find yourself standing in a field torn asunder by the ravages of war. All around you giants, dragons, creatures of myth and religion alike fight to the death. The very mountains themselves step forth to join the battle. Only one thing can be true, The War of Wars has begun. As you look to the center of the chaos you find the angel Gabriel blowing his trumpet and think at first the end has come from a divine source. Slowly, the Altar comes into focus, an altar made by man. As you see the eerie blue flames rise from a pile of skulls you realize only one thing can be true, some fool, some fellow resident of this world coming apart at its seams, started all of this. A boulder floats by and a nagging thought rises from your subconscious, racing to the forefront of your mind, and you mutter aloud in a voice hoarse with terror, "how did I get here?" Have you been summoned to join the battle? Are you to fight for the fate of the planet, or are you merely supposed to bear witness to the end?

This is a full sim installation. Come and enjoy it before the sim closes, which could be as early as Thursday! O.o

Don't click the link... It closed on Thursday >.<

When the Wife's Away the Husband Will...

...create like a man possessed! So, my better half has been out of town. Most of  the first day I stood there, just... stood there. I looked at my meeroos*. Then I looked at my wife's meeroos. Then back at mine. Then I watched videos on youtube. Then I watched group chats in SL... I didn't talk mind you... I just watched them. In the SL8B group they were talking about BURN2. So, back to youtube I went to watch videos of what the heck BURN2 WAS! That's when it happened... the background music on one of the videos was this deep, moody, discordant music and it sparked an image in my mind. That image is the piece you see above. I can't explain it. It just POPPED in there, and it sparked a week long create-athon. Since it started, I have replaced nearly every piece in the gallery. To date, there has been fourteen 2D pieces and four sculptures, with three more 2D pieces to be framed and hung, and several ideas left to sculpt.

I have always built in spurts. A few pieces here, a few there, with down time in between, but this past week has been insane. I have been sleeping weird hours, and have been so into the building and creating, I have gone nearly entire days forgetting to eat. The one good thing about sleeping weird hours is that I have been up at times when I have been able to talk to friends from over seas. Thus, I have been around to book and put up shows that I might otherwise have missed out on!

The one show coming up on Friday has been titled "Distopia" at the Art India Gallery and the curator has worked with me as no other curator has. She came and looked at my artwork, choosing pieces to include in the show. Then she actually guided where to place them in the gallery so that her vision and my artwork could come together. She also asked something no other curator has asked me. She asked me for a notecard of all the places I have ever shown in SL, awards etc. Well, with more than three years of art in SL under my belt I actually had to research MYSELF. I looked through old notecards and landmarks, and, just for the heck of it, I googled my name. I was utterly SHOCKED to find I make up the first six pages of results. I found out I'm on people's flickrs, there are blogs about my art that I never knew about, as well as youtube videos etc. Anyway, I encourage you to go to this show, a number of interesting pieces have been selected, both new and old. I will also be at Pirats SAS Art Gallery on Tuesday. Watch the standard groups in SL for information and LMs.

As much as I have missed my wife this week, her absence spawned a series of events that otherwise might not have happened. So, come home soon, my heart, I miss you, but thank you for leaving. LOL Hopefully you know what I mean :P

*Note: If you don't already know what meeroos are, they are the cutest most cuddly friggin breedable in SL. They are a fictional creature created specifically FOR SL and have destroyed the market on nearly every other breedable there is. As one blogger said, "If you don't want one, don't look at them." They ARE addictive and you will be forced to by larger and larger parcels to be able to handle the hundreds of the digital cuddly things you'll eventually want to keep.

The Best Laid Plans...

... went off with out a hitch. The Grand ReOpening of ::CMC:: Designs went amazingly well. Close your eyes. Imagine your standard gallery opening with light music and polite conversation over a glass of wine... Now forget that entirely! This was ANYTHING but your standard gallery opening. DJ Vosk bestowed some wicked tunes upon us, there was dancing, and someone put out a truth ball... Let me tell you, thanks to that truth ball, I now know things about my friends I could have gone the rest of my life with out knowing, but it was funny as HELL.

The highlight of the evening, the special event dubbed "The Omen" went off with out a hitch. I successfully kept it secret from all but two people right up until the reveal. So you want to know what it was? Not gonna tell ya! I warned everyone.. if you miss it... you miss it. If you really want to know what happened ask someone who was there and hang your head in despair as you realize the epicness that you missed.

In all seriousness though, my thanks go out to DJ Vosk who played for 3 hours solid, and to Fiatri Delicioso and Shaar Ashbourne for being wonderful hostesses who kept everything fun and lively for everyone. And to everyone who came and shared this joyous event with me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's so good to be back in SL doing what I love, and the fact that so many people came to support me and have fun truly means a lot.

So what now? More shows in other galleries! Today I open in A.R.t Galerie and on Tuesday I open in Omega Art Gallery. I'm also booked in a couple of places coming up in August. Come on down and show some love! Hope to see you soon!

Yours Forever in Art,

Who is CHUCKMATRIX Clip?

CHUCKMATRIX Clip is no one, just pixels. He exists nowhere but in the world of Second Life. He's my own personal Tyler Durden. (WARNING: Fight Club Spoiler) He looks the way I want to look, he acts the way I want to act, he f**ks the way I want to f**k. But the truth is, the man behind Mr. Clip is what many people have referred to as a... how did they put it? A "youngin." The real Chuck is a 28 year old graphic design major from New Jersey. There's nothing inherently special about me except the fact that I have managed to pack plenty of life experiences into a relatively short time-span. If you put me in a line-up with six other people and asked "Ok... which one is the artist?" you would be hard pressed to pick me.

So what sets me apart from other artists in real life and Second Life? Why should anyone care about this relative nobody with a gift for art and prim sculpture? I categorically refuse to fall in line!
•NO... I will not make purely sculpted prim sculptures. SL offers this wonderful medium called the lowly prim.
•NO... I will NOT make purely abstract art of a few glowing prims linked together. Maybe a few here and there, but it the prim is better than that. It can be so much more.
•NO... I will not make a sim sized immersive experience. They overwhelm the senses and my art is meant to make the viewer stop, stare and think. And finally,
•NO... I will NOT follow protocol for my own gallery openings and events. If you come expecting light piano and quiet whispers, you will be incredibly disappointed.

I believe art is meant to be celebrated in a way appropriate to the feelings it evokes! The day I start painting water colors of the shore, I'll hire a pianist. Until then, come to my gallery expecting a party! There will be good music, and mad fun with a twinge of the dramatic. An opening isn't an ego stroke for me. It's a way to share my love of art and my own expression with everyone who comes, and my art is anything but quiet.

So who is CHUCKMATRIX Clip? He's a young man from New Jersey who can make prims rear back and scream in agony, and with those same prims reach your heart and tug at its strings until you FEEL for a digital statue.

Test Test.... Is This Thing On?

It is? Okay, good... So, note to self: When closing a gallery do NOT ignore all the web accounts. Let me tell you, it's GREAT to be back building in SL, but recreating ::CMC::'s web presence has been a BEAR. I checked the facebook (hundreds of messages from the last year) then the email (hundreds of messages about the hundreds of messages on facebook from the last year) and then my ning site (GONE) and hung my head. The only thing I still had up with any kind of content was my koinup page, and THAT content was so old it was still showing a logo I hadn't used since 2009.

So here we go again! The Gallery, at least, is fully up and running. You can visit it here: ::CMC:: Designs Over the coming weeks several things will be happening. First, I'm planning a huge bash to celebrate ::CMC::'s Grand Reopening. Watch this site and the myriad of SL art groups and, of course, the ::CMC:: Designs group for more information as dates and times are settled. Second, I will be cleaning out and updating the facebook and koinup. Feel free to friend me on facebook (CHUCKMATRIX Clip) or visit the koinup site. (http://www.koinup.com/group/CMCDesigns/) And lastly, I will be trying to update this site with new pictures of my work, new information about the goings on at ::CMC:: and in general trying to make this page a fun place to visit. It will be more than just gallery opening information and blah blah blah. I'll tell you all stories of my successes, failures and the many escapades of CHUCKMATRIX Clip, to give you not just information about the art, but a look into the life of the artist as well.

So... If you have any question, comments, suggestions or just plain wanna say "Hi!" feel free to IM me in world, or email me at cmcdesignssl@yahoo.com

It's great to be back! Talk to you all soon.
